SIGNIFICANT OTHER

The starting point of Significant other are the two photographic still lifes, featuring found objects. The two sculptures attempt to re-create these still lifes in three dimensions.

The project attempts to shift the conventions of originality attached to the media: photograph as documentation, sculpture as a prototype. The photographic still lifes have a ready-made quality, where the origins of the objects are identifiable and the compositions seem both immediate and ephemeral. On the other hand, the resulting sculptures are new-made, deliberate and meticulous. Here, the sculpture acts not as a copy, but as a quote, fragmenting the image to recombine it again in three dimensions.

The resulting artwork is a combination of both its versions, oscillating between the two mediums and echoing the sculpture back to the photograph.
